Field Systems Engineer, North America

Summary: The ideal candidate has at least three years experience with IP networking products in a TAC or Network Engineering role while looking to expand their career into a field SE position with the leader in WAN optimization for satellite and wireless networks. You will be working with our customers to assist in design, testing and implementation of the XipLink solution in large accounts with occasional forays into new medium sized networks. The position offers time flexibility and some overnight travel beyond the DC area (+/- 25%), reporting into the VP of Operations in Ashburn Virginia. XipLink’s customer base is mainly comprised of military, maritime, communications service provider and aviation networks.

Responsibilities:

Sales related functions:

  • Work together with assigned sales representative as technical expert to acquire new accounts in specific vertical. This will include on-site sales visits.
  • Identifies current and future customer requirements as the technical lead on a sales team.
  • Assists with customer acceptance by explaining the XipLink technology benefits as they relate to a given network.
  • Develops customer's staff by providing technical information and training.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Customer Support related functions:

  • Acting as 2nd level support to customers, escalate 3rd level to support team
  • Responding to assigned customer support requests within agreed time limits
  • Rapidly establish good working relationships with customers and sales channels.
  • Provide procedural documentation and relevant reports, typically reflecting the baseline performance versus optimized.
  • Travelling as required from time to time for customer on-site assistance

Other functions:

  • Assisting in the design and implementation of improved documentation and information sharing procedures within the XipLink team.
  • Interact with Engineering and Product Line Management on new capabilities and improvements to the XipOS software.
  • Virtually anything else that may be required by virtue of the fact that XipLink is a growing company that demands versatility from all employees.

Requirements and qualifications:

This technical and hands-on position requires the candidate to work in a team and individual work setting contributing to all aspects of system integration including customer requirements, design, design review, testing, validation and implementation.

Technical project management and coordination will also form part of the SE responsibilities. Applicants should feel comfortable using UNIX based systems, such as Linux or FreeBSD and should have at least 2 to 4 years of experience in similar or adjacent roles. Experience in TCP/IP networking a must, with exposure to hypervisor environments, satellite or wireless technologies a plus
